Johnson likely to see out deal and leave for free
3rd October 2013 12:30pm BST
Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson is likely to see out his contract at Anfield and leave the club on a free transfer in 2015, SportsDirect News understands.
The former Chelsea full-back joined the Merseyside outfit from Portsmouth in 2009 for a fee of £17.5 million, signing a four-year contract with the Reds.
The England international agreed an extension to his Liverpool deal in the summer of 2011 committing his long-term future to the club after interest from Chelsea in his signature.
The 29-year-old earns a massive £139,000-a-week at Anfield making him one of the highest paid full-backs in the world.
Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, are looking to sit down with Johnson for talks and want to keep the defender at the club but it is understood they will not match his salary in their next contract offer to the England right-back.
Johnson’s current deal expires in the summer of 2015 and SportsDirect News has learned the defender, who is currently recovering from an ankle injury, plans to reject any wage offer lower than his current salary and see out his contract with Brendan Rodgers’ side.
